Thomas E. (Ted) Dreisinger, Ph.D., FACSM – Chairman

Dr. Dreisinger is Director of Research and Development for Dynamic Rehabilitation centers of Detroit, Michigan. He holds a PhD from the University of Missouri in Exercise Physiology, and is a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the American College of Sports Medicine. He has taught at the university level, and published and presented a number of scientific papers both in the United States and Abroad. Dr. Dreisinger is a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Back Society. He sits on the Multidisciplinary Patient Care Committee for the North American Spine Society, is Secretary for the American Back Society, past chairman of the Practice Board for Clinical exercise Physiology of the American College of Sports Medicine and is past chairman of the Board of Directors of the McKenzie Institute, USA.

Betty Sindelar, PhD – Vice Chairman

 
Dr. Sindelar is Associate Professor, School of Physical Therapy, Ohio University, Athens, OH and Consultant, out-patient clinic, Castrop Center, Ohio University Therapy Associates. She has a BS in physical therapy, 1975, Washington University, St. Louis and a PhD in bioengineering, 2000, University of Washington, Seattle. Her research is in the area of examining the structure/function joint interactions using the TMJ and an animal model for degenerative joint disease. She is also assessing the effects of long-term control of periodontal disease with a new treatment technique on inflammatory markers and disease outcomes.

Mark Werneke, MS, PT, Dip. MDT – Treasurer

Mark has been a full time clinician and physical therapist since graduating from Boston University in 1979 with a master’s degree in physical therapy. He received the Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy from The McKenzie Institute International in 1995. Mark presently works in a hospital-based outpatient Spine Rehabilitation Clinic at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, NJ. Over the past 12 years, Mark has also participated in clinical research and has published in several peer review journals. Mark is also a peer-reviewer for the journal Spine and the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy. He is a member of the Editorial Review Board for the International Journal of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. Mark was the recipient of 1) the APTA Rose Award for Research Excellence in 2000, 2) the International McKenzie Institute Research Award in 2000, 3) the APTA Chattanooga Award for best research paper published in Physical Therapy in 2004, and 4) the NJ APTA James Tucker Excellence in Clinical Practice and Teaching Award in 2005.

Stephen May MA, FCSP, Dip MDT, MSc – Secretary

Stephen currently works as a senior lecturer in physiotherapy at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. He is involved primarily in teaching post-graduate students and supervising masters' dissertations. He is involved in physiotherapy research and publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals. Stephen frequently undertakes peer review for a number of international journals. He graduated from Leeds School of Physiotherapy in 1990 and worked for many years in the NHS; he completed an MSc in Health Services Research and Health Technology in 1998. Stephen is co-author, with Robin McKenzie, of The Human Extremities: Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (2000), The Lumbar Spine: Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (2nd edition, 2003), and The Cervical and Thoracic Spine: Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (2nd edition, 2006). He was awarded a Fellowship from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (UK) in 2006 for his contribution to the profession; and regularly contributes at international conferences

Uffe Lindstrøm, MS, PT, Dip. MDT – Member at Large

Uffe Brunø Lindstrøm has been the full-time Director of a private physiotherapy clinic since 1989 where he continues to treat musculoskeletal patients exclusively. He is a graduate of Physical Therapy Program at the P.T. school in Aalborg Denmark. He has been a board-certified P.T. since 1985. His background spans more than 20 years of clinical experience in rehabilitation and assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal patients. He holds a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy. He has been involved in a number of clinical studies regarding sub classification of musculoskeletal patients. He is past chairman of the Board of Directors of the McKenzie Institute, Denmark.

Mary Sheid, PT, Cert. MDT – Member at Large

Mary Hass Sheid is the owner and President of Physical Therapy Specialists Clinic in West Plains and Mountain Grove, MO. Mary received her BA in 1982 from Drury College and her BS from the University of Missouri in 1984. Mary began her Physical Therapy career as the Director of a local hospital program in 1984 and opened her own Private Practice in West Plains, MO in 1992 and opened a clinic in Mountain Grove, MO in 1997. Mary received her Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 1993 and became a Certified McKenzie therapist in 1998. Mary’s private practice clinics are 2 of 60 McKenzie Certified Clinics worldwide have been certified since 2000. Mary has served on many boards such as the Missouri Physical Therapy Association from 1986-1996 and the Physical Therapy Commission Advisory Board for the Board of Healing Arts from 1989 – 2002 serving as Secretary for 6 years and Chair for 6 years. Mary currently serves on the Missouri State University Board of Governors being appointed by the Governor in 2002 and is serving a current term until 2011. MSU is the 2nd largest University in the State of Missouri with over 20,000 students. On the MSU Board Governors she served as Vice President from 2005 to 2007 and then was elected Chair from 2007-2008. During her time as Chair of the MSU Board of Governors, Mary lead the board in establishing and fundraising the first annual “Board of Governors: Leadership Chair” award which was awarded in 2008 to its first recipient. Mary also serves as Board Liaison between the Board of Governors and the University Foundation Board and has since 2004. Mary also heads the fundraising for the Missouri state University Mountain Grove Research Campus for MSU which does extensive Biotech and grapevine research with Bulgaria, Hungary and China programs. Mary has enjoyed serving on a variety of boards and foundations and has been recognized over the course of her career with various professional and service awards.
